Holy moly!
At long last, our poor chickens are finaly off the dining room table and into their new home.
Still got to build the run and paint everything, but they were getting way too cramped in the Sterilite brooders.
And, we were way too over the chicken dust!
I'm curious to see if the kids' coughs clear up next week. ^__^;

Putting all 10 chickens in for the first time was such a rewarding feeling.
Watching them explore the little world I created for them was sooo fun.
And then...
...the 2 Polish Tophats shattered the serenity and started summarily kicking the SHNIKIES outta everyone!!!
Then, they wheeled on eachother.
And whoever got beat up immediately started beating up whoever else - and they're all screeching and making new noises.
That was NUTS!!! :hmm;

I... guess that's normal - pecking order, and all.
Read about it.
Witnessed it.

Anyhoo, they're all huddled up sleeping now.
So, I guess they got that sorted out. ^____^

I'll post pics later.

YAY!!! Be sure to post pictures soon!!!!! HORRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay! Isn't it a wonderful feeling watching them in their new home? I'm sure they're loving it! I agree, it is so fun watching them explore in there for the first time. I would love some pictures, too!

Seems like all the hubbub has died down and everybody's getting comfortable.
I just went out to feed them and was very surprised to see that they all came over to get a little petting.
Or maybe they instincually know what a door is and just wanted out!
Either way, they got some petting.

Phyllis and Dyllis (the Tophats and the oldest of the flock) found the nesting boxes and the perch in front of them - that was cool to see.

Nobody has made it up to the actual roost yet.
I tried to set Brownie up there, but he/she thought that was waaay too high up.
So, when all the flapping started, I put him/her back on the floor.

AND, oddly enough, our two dogs are only mildly curious about the chickens.
I still don't trust them.

Pics will have to wait til tomorrow night.
You may not believe this, but building an enormous coop over the past 4 weeks has set me way behind on work.
Time for an all-nighter!

OK! Here it is!

Ta-Daaaah!

Kinda happy with the results, but it does look like orcs helped me with the framing.
Never built anything like that - EVER.
I took every bit of advice I got here on BYC and that's what you all designed!

Next is the run, pop hole, steps, and paint - whew!!!

Peep was the first to make it to the roost!

That's Dyllis, the tyranical overlord.
He's a roo, right? Phyllis doesn't have wattles.

Uh ho, Scarlet. Don't look now...
(Phyllis is the doom plotter)
