WOW! When I consider your statement, "Neither my husband nor I had ever built anything this big before and didn't really have all the right tools but we made due with what we had!" I am very impressed! Seems to me a novice with chickens you have done all the right stuff. Good Luck with everything!

Some thoughts (I think you asked some to make it safer)...

Cover the top of the run with the same wire that you've used for the fences...dont' forget the gable ends of the run's roof.

Cover the lower 3' or so of your fence with some 1" or smaller wire mesh to thwart any "reach throughs" from predators (I know you have the electric fence, but...).

Be sure you have a good waterproof seal at the hinge line of the nestbox lid.

I don't see one, but you might want to slip a cement block *under* the floor joist/header directly under the people door. Entryways are high traffic areas and many times incur heavy downward pressure when people enter. Blocking under the doorway will help support this area and keep the door opening plumb.

Best wishes,
Ed

Thanks for the suggestions! We'll definitely put more support under the door! That makes total sense.

The top of the run and gable ends are covered with the same welded wire we used for the rest of the run (I think it went up after I took these pictures)

I will have my husband read what you wrote about the hardware cloth for the bottom 3ft of the run... I've been telling him we still need it but he thinks the electric fence would prevent predators (but I'm of the opinion rather safe than sorry... especially after reading so many horror stories here)

We were having an issue with water getting in through the nesting box hinge. We ended up finding a good waterproof seal for the hinge line of the nesting box. It was hard to find something that worked... what do most people use??? It's being put to the test for the first time today so we'll see how we did Again, it was installed after I took these pictures. We also put hardware cloth all around the bottom of the coop and lattice.

One of my main concerns is a coon being able to pry open the door and make it right into the coop. The door has a lock, is flush with the exterior AND we have the electric fence going over it 3 times but I'm still worried.

Thanks again for all the compliments! We're very proud of our coop and our little chicks seem to be LOVING it! We did add of lower roost for them to use along the back wall of windows AND got our water collection system ready just in time for this big rain storm we're having (it rained so much it filled the 55 gallon drum overnight and it's now overflowing into the backyard!) I can't believe how big they've gotten in just 4 weeks
