Coop lighting

My coop doesn’t have electricity. Do chickens need a light inside the coop? There is a window. Will solar lights work if they aren’t on a timer? This is my first winter with chickens. It gets brutal here and they won’t be in their run some days. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I keep some solar yard lights near my coops, just to look out and see them if the dog barks...

Chickens really only need a light if you're trying to keep them laying throughout the winter. The lights in my coops are for me, not the chickens

But! If they will not go outside during the day and the window doesn't let sufficient light in for them to see/eat/dust bathe, than you may want to put a solar light on a timer.

How are you gonna keep the water from freezing or are you gonna replace the water a few times a day?

Does your coop have lots of windows?
Possible to wind/snow proof the run, or at least part of it?
Pics of your coop and run might garner some suggestions.
