coop location

Unfortunately what one person does on their own property can have a huge impact on those around them. That's why we require proper septic and trash disposal, and other issues such as creating a nuisance to be regulated. It does not seem unreasonable that you could ask someone to not create such a disturbance when it could be avoided.

Man to man only works where you have two reaonable participants.

And two men.

Let me guess; The guy that owns the chickens is a man. The person doing all the complaining is a woman.
So apparently that makes a face to face discussion out of the question. Obviously the OP lacks communication skills and has to seek advice from strangers on the internets about how to deal with real people in real life over minor annoyances. How about "Hey man, I'm hate to complain but those chickens are driving me crazy squawking under my window every morning. Can we move the coop to the other side of your property? I'm free Saturday and will come over and help and I'll bring the beer."
If that don't work, then move to a nice, quiet HOA where "nuisances" like chickens are highly regulated. Harrasing a law abiding citizen's chickens with a noise violation...really???

Maybe I'm being overly-simplistic but wouldn't a little white-noise easily solve this problem? I have a household of nine (four of which are noisy, stompy, door-slamming teenagers) and I LOVE to sleep in. There is NO way I could do that without having a fan running in my bedroom to drone out all the rest.

My wife thought I was crazy running a fan EVERY night...especially in the winter. Now she has to set her alarm to make sure she's up by 10am Saturdays to get one of the boys to bowling. The blissful drone of the fan wins over everything but the garbage truck dropping the can on the driveway...and only because that's at such a low frequency we feel it more than hear it.

Could be worth a try maybe before going to war with the neighbors?

This would definitely be worth a try! Our neighbor's dogs drive us bonkers with their constant barking. The neighbors are always gone, work or the son's baseball so the dogs live in backyard. We are retired! We usually have the radio or Tv on just to drowned out the noise. Neighbors are aware of the problem but there's little they can do. We like the neighbors & even like the stupid dogs....well one of them anyway. On the up side, our chicken's noise is nothing compared to the constant barking of the dogs, at least in my mind.

HMMMM, a neighbor being somewhat inconsiderate.

We wonder why there are anti-chicken ordinances.

Think before you act :)
To the OP, I ould go and offer suggestions (and even help) moving the coop, after stating why. Most people will be ok with that.
