I to have made the poop pit the slates with chicken wire underneath of them I found it to be so much easier at clean up time you just rake under and throw it into the compost pile now I used a large holed chicken wire so you may want to think about that tried the small holed and with not such luck I will not go into details but lets just say it was hard to clean but on yours you may want to think about closing off the under coop pitt so the animals such as rats don't come up into the coop that way plus you have a little one out running around that would be to messy for her to get into besure to leave away to open it to rake it out on mine I went it underneath and a hinged door I rake it out shovle it up and off to the compost pile with it and if you go with the deep litter underneath of it it make for such easier cleaning I go in about once a week turn it all over DE it and then add more shavings if needed then once every couple months I go in and clean it all out off to the compost pile I go add more shavings and start all over again.
