Moved more out to the country April 1st; got chicks 2 weeks later and kept them in the house, but wow do they grow fast! Moved from a small container, to a larger one, then to a 4x2x2' 'pen' inside until I could get the coop done.

Work fulltime and have to go back to the city twice a month for a couple days to check in etc. So with unpacking etc. it was a little hectic getting things sorted.

Anyhow, bbq'ing right now (not chickens ;) ) but figured I'd post this for advice & thanks. Thanks due to the fact that I've been here a few months and got a lot of information from everyone, so thank you all!

Don't have much spare money, so this is what I ended up with. Probably into it for $400, sheathing & wire the most other than hardware.

They seem happy so far, much better than in the house.

Coop is from a skid (roof) & crate-skid (the rest). It's still portable, nest lifts up and out, roof has 4 screws and then it with the four walls and floor come apart into 6 pieces. So I can take her with me ;) (currently renting). Poop board is a countertop for easy cleaning which I can access from the outside.

Short, but gotta go before dinner burns :)

Thanks very much again all for your insights!

Wow, I'm impressed! Very ingenious to make it portable, so if/when you move, it will be easier to take it with you. I bet those chickens were excited!

If you could add instructions how you built this to go along with your pictures, you could create a coop article in our Coop Forum. If you wind up doing that, there's an ongoing coop article contest you'll find under the contests you can enter it in.

Great job!
