Okay, so our six chicks are 4 weeks old today and we do not have a coop and I am in a little bit of a panic b/c 2 weeks form now we leave for a week and our neighbors will take care of our chicks and I am 99% sure they will need to be in the coop by then or they will be stuck in the brooder all day and very unhappy.
So we need a coop (three major unexpected car repairs later coop money has been eaten up!). We do have misc. building supplies. So my Husband is wanting to turn a portion of our back porch into a coop. We figure this would be easy to do b/c part of the framing is already there. Even talking about putting the nesting boxes at our windows so all we have to do is reach through the window to get eggs.We also would still have the ultimate chick vision through our windows! This would be a temporary coop, until the larger permanent coop is built. The large coop will be an all summer long project. This would be a structure we keep on our porch for the next broods we get over the years - an interim coop before they graduate to the big coop.
Any thoughts - pros and cons of having a coop on the back porch?
Thanks!
