Oh, you betcha!! I'm nearly 58 years old and got so excited picking up live goslings and chicks at the post office that another customer involved me in a conversation about the peeping box, and he (an older gentlemen) remarked he could see in my face and hear in my voice how thrilled I was to be keeping chickens. (We spent about 5 minutes talking about my flock...) And if it wasn't my birthday, the joy at holding that box of babies was certainly akin to "a youngster opening birthday presents."

Plus, every couple of days, I announce to anybody around me, "I own a gully!" (I just bought a house on two-thirds of an acre and discovered the property includes a very nice gully.) Hey, not EVERYbody owns a gully, you know!

So, yes, it is not abnormal to get excited about this stuff. Ooooh, baby chicks! Oohhh, look at all the breeds of chickens! Oooooh, what a nice coop - I want one like that! Ooooh, my broody hen just hatched chicks! Oooooh, I just hatched chicks in my own incubator!

Ooooh, that BYC forum is THE bestest place EVER!
