Hello All,

My husband and I have 5 baby chicks - about a month old now. We are quickly approaching the need for their full size coop. We are hoping to find a nice, good quality, pre-built that we can assemble that isn't going to break the bank! Does anyone have any recommendations? Links are appreciated!

My hope is to have a coop that allows them space to move around within the coop on days that we might not be home in time to in time to put them up before dark. However, most days they will have access to the yard as well.

I've looked at some at Tractor Supply but would prefer to have a recommendation! Thanks, in advance!

They’ll need 40sqft of space so you might want to either build your own or purchase a shed and remodel it. Prefab coops are never the right size.

Do you have any recommendations on coop plans for one we build on our own??

Only good premade coops would be picking up a shed or a locally made coop if you happen to have skilled craftsmen in your area (though those can be bank breaking, my feed store has some and I think the cheapest starts at $900ish). Or you can see about hiring a carpenter to build something similar.

For 5 chickens, assuming you do NOT plan on expanding, aim for a minimum of 20 sq ft inside the coop. If you think you might want more in the future, or you live in an area with extreme cold/rain during part of the year, go larger than that.

I'm betting those chicks want to be out now so hope you can find something very quickly that will do the trick!
