What if the melamine stayed in place and the blade moved! You cold put it on rollers, and provide tension that way. Very easy too as you pull on the top and back of the blade, the pivot will provide downward pressure on the blade! If the blade had some flex in it, it would scrape like a dream. No reason to fight a 4x8 sheet of melamine.

There are also things called slip sheets that warehouses like coors and pepsi use to move pallets on. They throw them away after they are worn, but they are non stick, and plastic so they would last forever. You might be able to get one for free and just sand and polish it smooth. I you had to buy them, they might even be comparable to a sheet of OSB or two, and would be very, very hassle free. Take a cutting off one for your blade, and use the rest for your base. If the seam ran inline with the travel of the blade it would not catch.

I'm not sure if I completely understand your design, however I have heard people with hardware cloth floors say a lot of the poop does not fall through. Maybe something to consider?
