The hen house of my coop has a pitched roof above where they roost that opens up to allow for more space. My run (that the coop is in) is completely covered and predator proof, do you think it’s okay to open the roof part of the coop to allow for more space for the hens? I’m thinking especially in the upcoming summer months. It’s gets well over 100 here in Texas!

My coop is in my run as well. I just leave the coop door open. I did loose 5 of 7 chickens a couple years ago. But I work evenings so not much I can do about it. My run is also half covered with sheeting and half covered with chain link.
I think we all lose birds once in a while.

I have chicken wire covering the entire run (the roof of the run is about 8inches above the coop when the roof part is open). You think it’s okay if I just take the roof off?
To clarify, I’m asking specifically for where they are sleeping at night.

Uh, little confused I guess with layout. Photos of coop and run? How would you open up the roof?

Heat is a big concern when you're getting over 100 degrees. In an ideal set up you'd have well above recommended minimum ventilation (like one entire wall open with mesh) and deep shade for the coop available.
