Coop Roof?

I would highly recommend making the wall that connects to the run solid wire. Or.... if you make a different wall solid wire make a roof with big eves to keep the rain out.

I grew up in Texas, it gets hot down there... can't imagine birds not cooking if they have to sleep in a closed up box.

Wire walls though... make them strong with tiny holes so that raccoon hands can not get in.

First off I am like the OP here, cheap. I love that chicken coop you have just built by the way. For a roof what I would do take your pallet boards and build a solid roof deck with that, then tar paper the roof. Done. Cheap. If your going to go with tin, you still ought to deck the roof with pallet boards, and lay felt paper before the tin or moisture maybe an issue. The other thing is pitch. I can't really tell in the photo but you need to have a pretty good pitch to keep a tin or polycarbonite roof from leaking at the seams.

Heck you could probably get away with two layers of #15 felt. It's way cheaper than even tar paper and there is way more on a roll. Be sure to tar any seams. lap the felt paper under the roof board so the water rolls off the tar or felt paper not the wood. Cheap!
