Well.....
I've been building this coop/coops/run/runs a little at a time since September 2009. Until yesterday there were 3 separate coop/runs. Saturday I had hubby help me move the largest section and largest coop (side closest to the fence), today I moved the center section and the 'lean-to' section into place and let everyone loose in it, I've had the adults all in the larger pen for 2 days and the 3 little girls in with the silkies for 2 days to accommodate this move.
Lets address the issues I know someone is going to bring up (seems like the only responses I ever get) despite the fact I just want to show off my hard work and the herd's new play area and possibly give a few people a few ideas....
Critter proofing over that cattle panel and a couple of other spots---- I'm taking off a door and moving the other so that I can move the silkie run next to this so I'm working on it again tomorrow, I don't see any point on wiring the darn thing up just to take it down again tomorrow. Plus I moved nearly a ton of wood today, as in the runs were still intact, and I'm exhausted. I live in a neighborhood with 6' privacy fences. If my dane can't get to them, and she really wants too, I'm not worried for one night. I did put a sheet of ply against the panel next to the door anyway.
Gaps due to leaning, things not fitting right, etc.--- NOT She-Ra here! I may have managed to move those runs 20' but there are some things I have to wait on Hubby for. Did I mention I was exhausted?
And no, I'm not taking out all the vertical supports or the beams along the floor, this used to be 4 separate structures, I didn't take them all apart.
There is no algae in the water, just shadow and play of light.
Yes there is enough room for 10 LF and 1 banty, 136 sq ft total floor space. more than enough roosting room for everyone and since this is TEXAS, it really doesn't get cold enough to worry about all the roosts being enclosed.
There will be a tarp covering this for rain protection, I just haven't been able to drive to town and get one, only have 1 car and have to share it with the hubby since he's making the money.
Sorry, just had to get those things out of the way.
So.... anyway....... pics of my work and my herd's new digs! Where this is sitting used to be the compost heap, the heap is now in planter beds but the girls are still finding lot of things to dig for. And FYI.... all but the screws, nails, hinges and the occasional 1x4 or 2x4 are completely recycled from construction sites, including the feeder and waterer. I think my total bill was $30?
