so chicken math aside lol. In a coop that is 4 x 6 and a run that is 6 x 6 and then under the coops so another 4 x 6 (free range for part of the day)
How many chickens is ok to have in there. I don't want to cram them in like someone with land adjoining ours who has 100 chickens in a pretty tiny coop compared to that many chickens.

So your coop is 24 sq ft and your run is 10x6? Going by recommended 4 sq feet in coop and 10 sq ft in run, that's 6 chickens. If you're trying to fit 10 chickens in that setup, they are going to be awfully crowded. Can you expand the run some? You might be fine with that coop size if they use it only for laying and sleeping.

@jennyf we will be expanding the run but they free range during the day. One is a week shy of 7 months but the rest are 15 weeks (4) and 14 weeks (5)

If you go with the 4 sq ft per bird, you are 4 birds over the max. You have to look at how your chickens interact with each other. Some chickens do fine even if they are a bit crowded. I would keep an eye on them as they mature. Their personalities could change and you may end up have to make changes.

If it was me, I would expand my coop or else downsize my flock. I give my chickens plenty of room, but not everyone can do that.

@henless we have plenty of room so we can always expand once needed. We live on 2.61 acres. Right now they have LOTS of room in the coop (although most of them choose to cuddle up even though it's hot as heck lol)
