Coop schedule

Would it be worth it to you to get an automatic door? That would be great for if you had to go out of town too.
Yes! Which brings up another issue. I’ll be out of town for Christmas…about when they are 10 wks. And probably new to the coop. I’ll have someone come over once a day, but will they know the routine at that point? I know…I didn’t think about the timing of the holidays when I got (ordered) them

If you are planing on putting them out at six weeks, I think so. I think 4 weeks is enough time to learn where to go. Especially if they like the coop and don’t free range (I’ve noticed when they do, it is harder for them to figure out where they are supposed to sleep) I would not put any perches in the run until you get back (if you were planing on it) then they’ll be more likely to roost in the coop. And I think getting an auto door is a good idea. That way you can rest easy knowing that they are safe at night. I love mine, I can leave days and not worry. It is also good just for every day, if it’s cold out or something and I don’t want to go out, I know the door will close and I don’t have to.

Also, I would hate having to get up at six on Saturdays. I enjoy sleeping in🤣

A little off-topic, but can you share a pic or details about how you leave them for days with the auto-feeder and auto-waterer? I haven't been able to figure that out.

I double check my auto door right before I leave anywhere to make sure battery is good and it is closing at the right time (annoyingly my light sensor does not work, so I have to constantly readjust it) i just have a regular waterer. It stores 1.4 gallons (I’m in the process of getting a bigger one) which only lasts about 2 days. So if I’m going to be gone longer then that I have somebody check it. If I had a bigger one I wouldn’t have to have somebody check on them. I just have a small bucket for feed. It is on bricks inside the coop and taped to the side to prevent it from spilling. It works great. I fill it to the top before I go anywhere. Not exactly answering your question, but hope it helps!

Does it ever lock them out of the coop? What if they’re not all in when it closes? Would they be ok, or traumatized for life?
