I have a lot of room to be fenced as additional space for my chickens to run safely in the spring/summer. I'm wondering just how big a coop has to be--how many chickens should 1 coop be able to support.
Mine is approx. 6 x 8. It used to be a really nice play house--with 2 levels. I took out the top level but the ladder is still in place and I put 2 more ladders crosswise for them to roost on. Nest boxes are on the opposite end from the ladders.
Tightly constructed with two windows, nice door and a storage bin along the back wall that is of no use to me now. I'm just wondering how many chickens could use this size coop comfortably. I know it depends on size etc. Right now I have 3 BAs, 2 Americaunas, 5 smallish mutts and 1 roo.
They already have a large fenced in run but I have more fencing to do so they'll end up with a nice large area for more scratching!
When finished it'll be about 50' by 150'.
What do you think of this arrangement?
