*Coop space importance*- Roosts or floor

My chicks do the same......they are all together on one roost, squished in tight even when it's hot. I'm glad they coexist so well and I'm really glad because I'm adding some new chickens to the flock, so they can have the other roost! They do the same with the nest boxes.....have 2 for 6 chickens and they pretty much use 1. I'm glad we didn't build more......

Floor space. BUT, although they won't use 12" per bird of roost space, they spend time hopping from one spot to the next, finding just the right spot. They're all over the roost, but once settled, all crammed into one to two places.

Hi from Ga. I have an 8' nest box for 10 hens but they all lay in the same corner. Sometimes 4 high.
