coop space

Ahh I get it now. So the bottom of your coop will be a few feet off the ground. I think that is fine. Mine is 4' high. Any higher though and your chicks may get bumble foot from jumping off too high.

Good to know thanks for the input do u have as ny points for me as a first time chicken owner?

I have actually had my chickens for 3 years. I had to create another username because I forgot my password and couldn't reset it!

I started out with a little coop I ordered on line. I quickly got tired of squatting down to clean it out! As you can see from my avatar, my husband built me a much bigger one! I recommend being able to walk in. The left side is where they sleep and the window is in a door that i can swing open and clean out their droppings.

Here are some pics.

This is one with the door open.

My advise to you would be to use hardware cloth. Never chicken wire - this is just to keep them out of your gardens! Hardware cloth is more money than chicken wire but it will protect them from predators. Make sure you wear gloves, when you trim it, the ends will poke you!

I have a few but for some reason they keep posting upside down! I can tell you that it is 16' x 5' and their coop area is 5' x 5'. I'm only 5'3" so I wish it was not 5' deep! I have to climb in it sometimes, but that is still better than crouching and crawling!

Sounds like thats something i would like to have im going to chang see up my lay out a little but i appreciate all your information

Here are some in the building phase, that didn't come out upside down. We used arms for screen doors for the windows so I can prop them open at any angle.
