Coop Thermometer

I put a digital wireless thermometer in my coop mounted to the wall by the roost. I am able to see the temperature from the house. Not that I am able to do much about the temperature but I do like being able to know what the temp is compared to the outside temp.

Anybody else check the temps in their coop?

I have a thermometer in the coop that I check when I to the nightime head count. I think I would stress too much if I saw it all the time.

Yes, I check the temp and humidity so I can adjust the ventilation if I need to. I suppose after a while I'll just know, like the experienced chickeneers.

We have a wireless unit that sends temperature and humidity readings to the house. We like to keep tabs on the coop's environmental conditions, although we haven't changed anything because of the readings...

Me, too! I'm a little embarrassed to tell you how many times I check the temperature throughout the night...just to be sure the heater is still working properly. We've had a real cold spell here (for us) the last week and I have tiny bantams not known for being cold hardy breeds.

how far away is your coop from the house, you must have a good one if it can transmit that far. maybe your coop is near the house? i want one, my coop if a few hundred feet from the house.

I do some comparison between the outside temperature and the coop temp. Sometimes when I see that it has warmed up outside more than in the coop I will turn on the heat lamp, mostly just to knock off the chill in the coop. That being said I do not keep the heat lamp on continuously. Just when we have the extreme cold. The thermometer has helped me with that part. With that being said I do not fret over the temps, not too much anyway. That's what I keep telling myself and everyone else.

I have one in my brooder room down at the barn that I check morning, noon and night to adjust the ventilation and coverings of the brooders.
I also have one in my shed just to see how cold it is when I go in there in the mornings or in the summer how hot it is at bedtime. What I think feels great is not the same as what the chickens like in temp. I can adjust airflow by closing down some pop doors, windows or big door or fan if needed.
The thermometers serve me all year around.
I don;t use the digital for in the house since I am more often down at the barn than in here and the barn and shed are too far from the house for read outs.

I have one of those 12" dia circular ones and always check it AM and PM. I am too far away from house for wireless. Tried baby monitor (blush) and it was quite noisy/static. I did run a quad tel line to the coop along with the water line and 20 amp/120v AC power. Free since I had the cable on hand anyway. Figured an extension phone not a bad idea. Still leaves 2 wires for remote temp reading OR intercom.
