Coop trim?

I'm working on a new run and I plan to staple the hardware cloth on with an air stapler and then trim it out. Any thought on cheap wood for the trim? Wood is so expensive these days.

We bit the bullet and bought 1x4's. Even 1x2's would work.

But I have read about someone using dog-eared fence boards.

I used those long skinny pieces of wood that come in bundles you find in the roofing area of the big box store. I don't know what they are supposed to be for (shims maybe), but they worked great for me.

Fence pickets, 1x2-3-4-whatever size the frame is all work well.

You can see I used salvaged narrow fence pickets on my door to the retirement coop.

Do you have a tablesaw to rip lumber into smaller pieces? If not, stick with stuff close to the dimension you need - 1x material, bundle of wood stakes, etc. I'd likely go with fence boards ripped down, since they'd be cedar and will last a little longer; however on my coop I didn't put any trim over my stapled on HC

The wood on pallets is pretty thin, and you might be able to find those for free.
