Coop under construction!

I am soooo excited. We started building a coop yesterday. Framing is all up. We now have to get the floors and walls finished. My guess is within a month/ month and a half we will be able to move the girls and guy to the new coop. We also have to build the run yet.
Can’t wait...

Progress made yesterday.. we still have alot to do before we can move the girls and guy over to their new home. But it is slowly coming together.

When I seen your first pictures, I assumed you would leave the eves open. That is the best point for ventilation. Same on lower back side. These should stay open. It should be covered with hardware cloth to secure from predators.

We r putting a window with wire over it on the side with the door. There will be small doors to open and close. Eves are to big even at that size to leave open around my area. To many raccoon and other predators. Also the way hubs built the roof and eves there isn’t a way to attach any wire.

Nah....remove blocking, add a fascia to rafter ends, and HC for soffit...perfect predator proof winter ventilation.

I have raccoons and other predators also, my front and back eves are covered with hardware cloth. My pop door is open 24/7 and both front windows are usually wide open all summer long, like the one on the left.

I have 2 game cameras, so I know whats going on around my coop.

I believe 1 sq. ft. per chicken is the recommended amount of ventilation. If it’s up in the eaves it will be above where they roost, protecting them from drafts. They really need ventilation, especially in winter when we might be inclined to close a window to keep the wind off the chickens.

I’m new and I only have chicks. But I read a LOT.
