Currently in my coop we have hay. I have come to find out I am very allergic to the hay & it is miserable for me to even go in there to clean. I saw some postings about people switching it up and using sand! Any advice of what I can use to eliminate the hay

I use hemp bedding but I have no idea if that would cause you problems as the hay does. It is a different plant and the hemp bedding is MUCH less dusty. It isn't cheap either but I only clean the coop floor bedding out once a year because I use poop boards.
I actually eliminated sand from the boards because it was so dusty but others have found they like it. :idunno

To make sure To

I just want to make sure if I do same it’s safe

I use sand, my soil here in North Carolina is mostly clay. The sand has been great for my garden. Sand drains well, dries fast. I just use a scoop to strain the poop, and add additional sand when it starts to get low. Works great for me.

What kind of sand do you use ?
