Coop Wire Question..

You could just use 1 X 1/2 inch hardware cloth, rather the using 2 X 2 plus something else, assuming pricing wasn't too different. I like the 1 X 1/2 inch, as it's pretty sturdy (16 ga), sturdier than the 1/2 X 1/2 (19 ga) and keeps the peeps in.

Has anyone ever used 2"x 2" welded 16 gauge wire for their run?

.

After reading where raccoons can bite thru chicken wire I built my main chicken run onto my house with 2x4 mess welded wire like that..

2x2 would be even better..

I put concret blocks all around the outside of my bottom..

Others put wre down to keep them from digging under..

I'm trying to work it all out in my head before i do anything. But I liked the 2"x2" because it's visually pleasing but would also keep most predators out...and the chicks in.

I am considering doing a short, maybe 1' high, rock wall on the outside of the fencing, rather than putting a second layer of wire on the inside...im thinking the 2 layer wire might look sloppy. I think the rock wall would look nice on top of making it even safer for the chickens.

But then again, i've got about a million ideas running around in my head still!

I used the 4 x 2 galvanized for most of my run. Seems pretty strong however I noticed a few places where the welds had popped off. For the most part I think it is a solid fence though.
