I really doubt I will be able to build a predator proof duck coop and was wondering if there are any alternatives to building one, or is that the smartest? I was looking into purchasing a coop but most that I found are quite expensive.

It's not as hard as you'd think to build a predator proof coop. Just make a wood box with a linoleum floor, make cheap windows out of plexiglass, and cover all vents with hardware cloth. Just make sure you have a good lock, especially if you have raccoons.
