We live in North Central Florida. It has been as low as 28 in the winter. Had the flock of 9 for a couple months, but we both lived around chickens when we were little kids. Built the coop with the North end and 1/3 of the West side wood fence and the rest chain link fence (apx. 12x14 total). Also have a tarp over a 1/3. Will my ladies need any extra heat when it's really cold? Thanks so much for any advice.

NO heat .... 28 is really not cold to a chicken (heck is really isn't that cold to ME). What they need is a dry, draft free yet ventilated area to roost. We have periods when it doesn't get OVER 28 ! Our biggest challenge is keeping fresh, drinkable water. We have one of those pan heaters under our waterer and it works great.

Depending on breed, most chickens that die of temp issues die of overheating. Not likely to die of cold issues in Fla. Coop must be dry and little to no drafts, especially at roosts where they spend their nights. Ventilation vital. Dampness/sweating walls a no-no. Have you considered predators such as coons, etc?
