Coopers hawk failed

Makes me shake my head in dubious wonder. I mean, what on earth! But Cooper's Hawk do like to fly hard and fast. I've seen them suicide dive into my huge Cypress tree, scare all the little birds out of the tree, then scramble to snatch a bird.

We had one crash into a window we had a bird feeder in front of. I have seen them fly into concrete walls in pursuit. They have a take no prisoners approach to flying. They are great flyers but also do fly into things when in pursuit.

My 8 week old chicks are in the portable run in my backyard, near the house. I was outside cleaning the coop, but under the porch, cleaning roosting bars.
A Cooper's hawk flew over the chicks, and I watched as it turned back around to make another run at them and slammed into one of the big windows on the house, breaking its neck instantly.

Generally, the appropriate course of action when the death of any raptor is involved is to call the police, and don't touch the bird. Not even to move it.
I did end up calling the conservation department, after I saw it had broken its neck. They had me check for a tag, and said they usually collect the body if the death cause was unknown.

Years ago two red tails were fighting i over my grandfathers back yard. My dad and I were standing there watching this aerial battle.

One suddenly veered off and crashed right through a window into the house. Blood feathers and glass everywhere. Be glad it wasn't one of the big ones!

Oh goodness! I can't even imagine!

I've had one hit a window here too but only a glancing blow. He was successfully rehabbed and returned. I didn't have chickens then so good news. Now I'd tell them to take him somewhere else!
