Back in the time when there were real free range chickens almost everywhere, you could not drive down the highway and expect a hawk to calmly sit on the power lines. You see back then farmers or rural people didn't cut hawks any slack and it was common for any hawk foolish enough to sit still on a powerline to meet its maker in a swarm of No. 6 lead shot. Now-a-days hawks will sit on the power lines and pick their noses or make rude signs at you with their fingers. There is something to be said for wildlife being afraid of humans.
