Hi I am new to this thank you very much for letting me join my son is in need of help so I'm moving him from Laramie down to Utah and he said that he needed to bring his 14 chickens which I think is really cool they lay eggs and I think that's really neat so I'm trying to help him out but I don't have a chicken coop and so I was offered to make a chicken coop out of a rv trailer is this a good option or should I do something different

Hello, welcome to BYC, few essential things you need for a healthy chicken coop, popper ventilation, predator protection, adequate space, roosting bars, nesting boxes, protection from the harsh elements, and clean bedding. Are you gutting out the trailer? leaving you clear open space for the chickens and easy access to cleaning, feeding for whomever is doing maintenance and such? I live in South Florida, temperature here is very hot and humid, in summer, rainy, our cold spells are very mild and moderate, an RV would have to be modified to weather pattern in climate, also, you dont say if the chickens will be in coop all day or free range most of the day and cooped at night.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

I would use the TV trailer only if it offers 4 sq ft of floor space per bird, you can get in as close to 1sq ft per bird of predator protected ventilation as possible and the structure is weather tight and predator proof. They will also need secure outdoor space that is preferably covered with a solid roof.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

You've been given some great links above! Be sure to take lots of pictures as you go, keep track of what you purchase, barter, or repurpose, and you could wind up making an article like those @N F C shared, which would help others.

We're glad you're here!
