We have a pair of coots nesting in the middle of our lake and we have just seen that 2 babies have hatched. We would have thought it was too late in the season to be able to survive before it gets too cold. Is this normal behaviour for coots?

A little late, depending upon where you live. They take about 45-50 days to fledge.

Thanks Clint, we live down south in South Wales, so it can be quite mild during the autumn. So let's hope the little things make it.
