I had previously ordered some copper Maran hatching eggs. Now those chicks are grown and laying. My question is I get both medium brown and really dark brown eggs. The dark ones are the ones I want. If I only incubate the dark ones will the chick that hatch grow to lay dark eggs? Not sure if this is a dumb question, I still don't really know how egg color is decided. Thanks

It depends on the rooster's egg color gene too, its best to incubate once so you know what the roosters egg gene is. But yes, it will give you a better chance of hatching chickens who lay dark brown eggs. But it depends on both the genes of the mom and dad. Not just the mom.

An egg that is a #9 on the egg chart does not reproduce a #9 egg on the egg chart. If they did everyone would have #9 eggs. It is all about hatching 1,000 of eggs looking for the Holy Grail. I have been hatching BCM's for 5 years and have a consistent # 7 but never a #9 TOM
