Copper Marans egg colour

I thought it went the opposite..that they got lighter in color the longer they had been laying? But, maybe the color peaks?? I do know that color intensity varies from one marans to another.

I just got this lovely girl and have only had two eggs from her and they were a normal brown egg - so perhaps she is not a Marans after all. I was hoping the egg colour would tell me !!

True Black Coppers, or any French variety for that matter, should begin laying at least an orangey dark color, and it will darken for the first few weeks, then as the months continue on, it will get lighter and lighter. When the Marans gets a break, such as with broodiness, molting, or the normal winter break, she will restart her cycle and her eggs will be dark again, but after several years they will gradually get lighter in general.
