Hi
I have a New Hampshire that has crop canker. We are on day 5 of Flagyl and it doesn't look like there's a turnaround. The stuff I scrape off in her throat are also growing back. Only discovered this disease this week, have never heard of it before. I can hear that it is inside her. Gargling sounds coming from her crop. Crop hanging like a waterbed.
I found 2 stock solutions and also a direct solution:
Mix daily and provide as the only source of water for four days.
Stock:
1/2 cup of copper crystals
1/4 cup of ACV
1 Liter of water
Take 1 1/2 teaspoon of that and put into 2 liters of water.
Is this still the way to go? The correct recipe?
The other stock solution from a "just answer'' online vet:
One cup of vinegar, 1 pound of copper crystals into 1 gallon of water and then give a tablespoon of that into 1 gallon of drinking water. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like this one is more or less the same as the first stock solution I mentioned, just much more?
*My first question is, can I make the stock solution once off and use it for the whole week without having to make a new stock solution every morning?
I want to treat the rest of the flock with the copper, because my sick bird has had this growing for months, I didn't know any better and thought it was respiratory the whole time treating with Oxytetracycline and Baytril, with no improvement.
I am looking at a Ronidazole and Secnidazole Combo tablet for her we have available here, seeing that the metronidazole is not working. Also came across an article that states Ronidazole works much better and stronger than metronidazole. This is my last resort before culling my precious bird, as they are all exhibition quality.
*My second question: Can I give her the copper sulfate mix for a week together with the new Ronidazole tablet, or should I rather try the last resort tablet first before the copper mix. She's not really drinking much. I am afraid this tablet and the copper sulfate might clash and neither not working as it should, when I give it together.
*Thirdly, it is breeding season here, and I have exhibition Rhode Island reds. Is it safe to give the copper sulfate while I am still putting eggs in the incubator? Putting in my last eggs for the season on Saturday tho.
But most importantly, what are the chances of this copper mix giving my roosters a knock in their fertility???
The reason why I am asking this is because, when my dad was in the Angolan Border war in the 70's the government forced them to drink copper sulfate crystals in their coffee to curb lustfulness and to induce erectile dysfunction and it worked very well, this is no joke. So for that reason I am very afraid to do the copper treatment once a month for prevention.
*Lastly I came across a Epsom Slat flush.
Mix 1 teaspoon in a cup of water and give orally 2-3 times a day for no more than 3 days.
Will this be only the one cup (240ml) for the whole day spaced out between 2 to 3 times during that day?
Thank you for your time.
Regards.
