Copperhead bite, can anything be done ?

She layed a Shell less egg. I am still hopeful because at this point she is doing much better than our Rouen did. It was about this time the Rouen was bleeding from her nares. Her leg is swollen and she is not putting weight on it.

Labored breathing, leaning to one side. Opens her mouth to quack but no sound. She is/was my loudest duck.
She sounds, well, very bad, but I say give her a chance. Try anything that might help her. She might make it. No reason to let her suffer too much, but you don't want to kill her if she has a chance.

I found one historical (as in ancient Greece) that suggested plucking a rooster and putting its butt on the snake bite .
The best suggestion I have is to join the snakebite support group and try to get some advice. Unfortunately the size of the animal is probably working against it. I hope your little duck makes it.

I tried to get useful information from the support group by reading through, but saw little if anything pertaining to birds as the bitten. Hopefully, participants will respond quickly to questions.

I've actually been looking up scientific articles. I've found 2 relating to venomous snake bites in poultry and they look like they are both related. One is a case study out of Africa and one is a literature review that cites the case study. It appears that venomous snake bites in poultry, at least in Africa, has a mortality rate of around 90%.

Are snakes involved pit vipers like Copperheads, rattlers and Cottonmouths we deal with in the states? The cobras and mambas of Africa are much tougher customers with a venom that acts very differently.

Could you post links to pdf's?
