Copperhead bite, can anything be done ?

Are snakes involved pit vipers like Copperheads, rattlers and Cottonmouths we deal with in the states? The cobras and mambas of Africa are much tougher customers with a venom that acts very differently.

Could you post links to pdf's?
Yes, there are certainly differences between the hemotoxic venom seen in crotalids and the neurotoxic venom in elapids, which is why I noted that the mortality rate in Africa was approximately 90%. These studies document venomous snake bites on livestock by both groups of snakes. In these papers the bites received by poultry species are suspected cobra envemonations. Edited to add: As I read back though there is also a suspected viper envenomation in poultry.

That does it, I have to agree with HargroveOutdoors. You can not extrapolate between species that much. No benadryl for ducks until somebody tests the stuff on ducks that are at least challenged with pit viper venom. We are helping no one if suggesting do not work or do worse.

Many people have if you do a little research. In no post did I suggest it will treat snake bites, simply adding on to your post that it's safe for poultry, and that it may be worth trying if unable to see a vet.

They do study all fowl in vet school and uni...I took my chook to the vet yesterday...$130

True, but in my experience (grew up on a farm) not all are comfortable or equipped to deal with emergencies related to poultry or fowl, and many who don't specialize in poultry, fowl or large/farm animals and livestock often won't risk treating the animal due to liability..at least here in the US.
