I read somewhere that it’s good to give Corid as a preventive for momma and baby chicks who are raised outside from day one. My hen is due to hatch her chicks this weekend and is inside a plastic crate but has access to grass inside a chicken tractor to poop, eat and drink. The plan is she will raise them there. Even though my flock has never had Coccidiosis, I’ve also never raised newly hatched chicks outside.

So should I treat them as a preventive? If so, when should I start and how long should it continue? When do I give the B vitamins and for how long? I have Nutri Drench. Would that suffice as Vitamin B-12 source? Thank you so much in advance.

That is incorrect. Keep Corid on hand for the just in case, but baby chicks raised by mother hens are usually pretty immune to cocciadosis as they get small doses from the mother. Def do not use as a preventative; just have on hand so if you do need it, you have it.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure and I want to give my baby chicks the best start in life. It was actually someone on these forums that suggested it.
