Hello everyone this might be a silly question but this is my first time having baby chicks and I want to be sure. I just started them on Corid can they continue to eat their medicated feed or do they need to be on non-medicated feed while they are taking Corid? Thank you in advance.

The chicks range from 1 week to 4 weeks old. I’m using liquid Corid and the dosage is 1/4 tsp because I have a 1qt Waterer. Should the dosage be higher or lower?

To answer your original question, using Corid while the chicks are eating medicated feed will not hurt them.

I'm just trying to figure out why you are using Corid in addition to the medicated feed? Are you treating them preventatively or do they have coccidiosis/symptoms?

The outbreak dosage is 2tsp per gallon, which would be 1/2 tsp (2.5mL) per quart for 5-7 days. The preventative dosage is 1/2 tsp (2.5 mL) per gallon or 1/16 tsp per quart (0.625 mL) but you shouldn't need to use Corid for prevention if you are feeding medicated feed.

Thank you! And yes One the chicks started to have bloody stool so I am using Corid to treat all of them

Ok. Thank you for clarifying. In that case, you would want to use the outbreak dosing. 1/2 tsp (2.5mL) liquid Corid per quart of water for 5-7 days. Be sure not to give them any vitamins during treatment and keep their bedding from getting too saturated with droppings. I would continue with the medicated feed until the youngest chicks are 4 weeks old.

Thank you so much!

You're welcome! Be sure to watch for signs of illness (puffed up, lethargy, not eating/drinking, etc.), as visibly ill chicks may need a "drench" dose. If they are all acting normally, the Corid in the water should be enough. Make sure it is the ONLY source of water they have available during the treatment period.
