My Coop
My Coop
So yesterday, when I got home from work, I went out to the coop with 3 fresh corns in hand as a treat for my girls. I put one on the ground and left 2 on the table for later. The girls pecked for a few minutes and then ran off to their favorite dusting place next to the woods. I took a walk around the perimeter of my yard looking for a woodchuck hole ( another story ) and went to clean my coop. Then I got my camera and took some pictures of the girls playing on the edge of the woods. I went inside to load them on my pc. When I came back out, I noticed all 3 corns were gone. The girls were still hanging out on the edge of the woods as if nothing happened. They seem a bit heavy for a squirrel to take off with. It's almost like someone walked up and took them and walked away. I looked everywhere and could not find them. Could it be a squirrell? Maybe crows? Who stole my corn in broad daylight? Very weird.

I had a lot of crow come to eat corn, but nothing carried the cobs away.Put some more out and wait in the distance.

That is something my dogs would do, If i touch it and leave it laying around one of my dogs will go get it, mainly the pups in training.
So do you have a dog?

I don't have a dog and I did try to see if it would happen again. I put more corn out and waited inside the house watching out the window, but nothing happened. I was totally weirded out by the strange disappearance of the three corns.

Crows will take corn. Ravens, raccoons, foxes, squirrels. Lots if things will take an ear of corn.

Squirrels will carry off corn. If you have a squirrel feeder, the cobs have to be nailed to the feeder or the squirrels take off with it.

Hmmm. If a squirrel can carry one off, then my best guess would be a squirrel. We have a very large one coming and going near the coop. I just didn't think it would be possible for a squirrel that size to lug 3 corns away that quickly!
