We got ALOT of cornish bantams and they are heavy little birds. I was curious at what age can they be butchered for meat? Thanks!

Can you post a pic? I've never heard of a Cornish Bantam.

Standard CX are 6-10 weeks depending on your goals for carcass weight, I have a friend who just started doing cornish game hens for a local chef at 3-4 weeks to get the chef's desired carcass weight.

Divide live weight in half and you'll be close to the dressed weight. She looks to be a decent wlr bantam. No one interested in buying her at the show?

Most folks appear to be using 1/3 ratio of live weight to carcass weight. So if you want a 6 pound carcass weight you would harvest at 7.8 pounds live weight.

Any chicken of any age or sex can be butchered and eaten. Some cultures will even eat a chick just before it hatches, ever heard of balut? People eat quail, they may not know how old they are and there certainly isn't much meat there. The things that vary are how much meat you get and how you should cook them. The older they are the lower you generally need to cook and the more moisture you need.

Your question was "at what age can they be butchered for meat?" The answer is any age. If you can tell us their age we might be able to tell you how we'd cook them.

Nicely said.

I have 13, 2 month old Cornish bantam chickens. I want to know at what age would be the best to butcher to get the most amount of meat.
