Cornish cross leg and heat issues

No free time until Saturday, my wife’s youngest sister is getting married. Plus my buddy hasn’t dropped the plucker yet, although he did text and said it would be here this week.. about 5lbs love weight, so we would like a bit more growth.
I can understand that, but 5 lbs live -- 3 pounds dressed -- better than 0. A wedding is more important! Best wishes!

I have not weighed my birds this week, but last Friday they weighed in at 4lbs. I have not lost any with the heat, but think I will process this weekend to avoid any losses as they get bigger with this heat. I have notived that the larger birds have been panting more. I am just hoping they aren't too small, I'm not so sure of the age since they came from the Farm store. Glad to hear your birds are doing better after the misting, hopefully the temps will go down some soon.

When we had a couple 90+ days in a row in Central Mass, I ran a fan next to their pen. I am not an expert in thermodynamics - but my thought was to use a gallon water jug that was completely frozen. I put that jug in front of the fan so was hoping it would blow somewhat cooler air during the middle of the day.

Not sure how much it worked, but the chickens did huddle by the corner where the fan was, so I am sure it did something!

They were all panting but no deaths out of 25 hens.

Wedding went well the rain that broke the heat wave had perfect timing! The meaties all survived it, now the next wave is 1-4” of rain! Out doing chores and my buddy dropped off the plucker. Hoping for a good week of growth and good processing day next week.
Yeah Plucker! I wish I had one! Glad your birds made it though the heat!
