This is our first time raising Cornish Giants and all was going well until a few days ago. We lost 6 as chicks and now 4 more today as 8 week olds and they just start to slow down, get lethargic, and their skin turns a dark red and then they die or have to be assisted to that end. They have a few hundred square feet to run around in that had grass to graze on and they also have a large 10 x 17 shelter from the elements. They get three meals a day and all the water they need so I think they just grow too fast and can't support their own body weight and demands on their internal organs. Has anyone else had them just drop off like this? We had 101 and now we're down to about 90 at 8 weeks of age.

Not too unusual.. most are processed around 9 weeks due to the fact that they do grow so heavy so fast that the strain on their hearts and bodies is too much and they do die.

Sorry to hear all that about your chicks. I just got 7 baby cornish giants because I thought they'd be good for eggs...I'm so sad that I'm only going to get a couple months out of them, they're sooo sweet.
