I'm not very experienced, but my White Laced Reds from a hatchery were among my wildest as chicks and never grew out of it. My LF DCs have all been from one breeder's line, and are hands down the calmest [a possible exception being the CX meaties] of anything I own, after once past a few weeks of age. I don't know if either of my experiences are typical or not.

A DC pullet, I think one of the oldest, so probably hatched towards the middle of July.

I weighed a cockeral out of curiosity, and it weighed just under 4 1/2 pounds, so guessing this girl at around 4. While Cornish are notoriously slow growers/developers, these birds are already carrying enough meat to process as a game hen, so I was pleasantly surprized.

Looks just like my girl.

We could not eat her, she lays way too well. This girl likes to lay 6-7 eggs a week! Almost 2 years old and still going.

This bird doesn't have very much cornish in her at all, she is a hatchery bird with alot of what looks like Cochin or Wynedott in her. You can tell by all the feather fluff and her tail carriage, her body is that of a layer and the leg's are too, also the lacing is a dead give away that she has several other birds in her backround.
So as far as temperment goes it's going to be a crap shoot you probably won't be able to attribute it to any one breed. Mutt Hatchery birds do however tend be very mellow so I would assume you won't have any problems with that one.

To be honest I just don't see it; but of course we're comparing a two year old to a 2 month old so who knows???????????? Yours is a beautiful bird and sounds like a great layer.

Agreed, sorry, there's a big difference between hatchery Cornish and true Cornish. She's pretty but does not look like Steve's.

Steve, I'd certainly be happy with a 4 lb pullet who was born in July!

I just got back from one of our local auction sale barns where I picked up 3 nice Dark Roosters, I know the breeder who brought them and he called to say that he would be there with a few. So I went and after some posturing and keeping the bid low I picked up 3. 1 is a yr old and 2 are 2 yr olds just right for putting in the pen's. I hadn't planned to buy just look and say hi to some of my chicken buddy's, but not having any cages and being in the wifes new car, which by the way she said the day we bought it that no chickens were allowed LOL. I put them in 2 big Onion sacks I got from a friend and put them in the trunk hehehehe, they are resting in the quanatine pen now.
2 of them are son's to the Arkansas Cornish regional Champ where he took BIS and the hen took Reserve, so I am happy to get them and for the $$$ I feel guilty cause I think I stole them and he didn't PO them LOL.

Is there anyone on this thread that has LF cornish chicks or hatching eggs to sell? I have been wanting to get started with LF cornish all summer and really got the bug after lurking on this thread and seeing the pictures!
