As far as natural breeding to a silkie, maybe. I'm not 100% convinced they are really chickens myself, so I couldn't blame a self respecting cock bird if he didn't notice either.
You're just too much, Gary.

It sounds to me like you're trying to create a Cochin, why try to recreate the wheel?
Help me understand.
X2. That was precisely what I thought.

However, if one wanted to make use of a Silkie, just give her a few eggs to sit on when she goes broody. Notice, I said WHEN she goes broody. Mine have been trying to be since mid-January.

I would think trying to make a larger offspring out of a Silkie is just going to result in a lot of chicks lost due to the fact they will just be too big for the egg you are giving them to develop in. I know sometimes I have eggs that don't hatch and I swear it is because I open the egg and the chick almost explodes out from being too big for what space they have, and those are on some large breeds. Just saying, I would hesitate to do such a cross.

wish mine would.... they've laid more eggs in the last month did they did all last year.

I mainly wanted to do it for curiosities sake. I also wanted to see if I could take the extreme broodiness of the silkie and the large size of the brahma to create a good broody bird.

You could probably do the same kind of broody cross with gamefowl. Because they are a wild type bird (personality regarding broodiness, not necessarily coloring) you could keep a good size bird, and if mixed with a good blooded large Brahma, you could really end up with a good broody LF bird.

That's actually a really good idea. I decided I'll just leave the silkie be and let her go broody. I quit collecting her eggs so hopefully she goes broody.

I am super excited and feel like I just won the lottery!

I ran across a man here in Louisiana whose only about an hour from my house that used to show standard Dark Cornish and has raised them for over 20 years. I picked up some hatching eggs from him this week and will be buying chicks in late May, early June to guarantee I get enough decent birds.

Here is a picture of some of his darks: I love the width on the hens.
