Cornish Thread

He is half Ga Noi, and half Asil, I like his back. I crossed some Asil with what are basically the equivalent of OEG standard fowl, and didn't get Cornish, don't know what happened, maybe you have to do it in England for it to work.

Interesting, I have been thinking about this............ don't you need Malay too? Cornish can improve so many other breeds, but what would be best to add to improve Cornish?
And how does a breed (Corish) with ancestry like that (Malay, OEG, Asil) end up with short legs and double lacing????? Curious.

I have read that some of the show lines had shamo added much later. The malay was most likely derived from large asil from southern India. As for the short legs, check out the rajah asil.

Yep, they have short thick legs and usually a fleshy face. I see a lot more Rajah than Malay when I look at a Cornish. A good Cornish that is, some of the hatchery ones I've had through the years looked like dark RIR with pea combs.

The lacing in Cornish is definitely coming from the asil influence, I've seen pictures of some with very intricate lacing patterns. Mine turn out some dark Cornish patterns pretty regularly. As for all of the Asian breeds being hard to keep up with, really when you stop to think about it, they are all Asian, in a way.

The Malays most likely are not from the Malay peninsula any more than Panama hats are from Panama. (Made in Honduras) That was just their last stop before being shipped to the world as we knew it at the time. The name was created by people in England and Ireland, based on what the people at the docks told them. (In many cases after translating from Dutch.) Most of the ones we have now are likely descended from a blend of many different fowl from various places that fit a basic category.

I would like to get some Cornish and try grading in some big Oriental game just for my own use to try to give them the kind of head that would look good on them and get them a little more upright. I would probably do it with hatchery birds, I would hate to mess up anything that somebody has worked hard on trying to keep right. Who sells a decent hatchery Cornish standard fowl these days?

I got these from Macmurray. The rooster s show a lot of red and one has white wing feathers. The three pullets are all different in body type and lacing. I don't recommend. Their Dark Cornish. They are very inconsistent
