Cornish Thread

I was going through some of my old photos- I kept the cockerel on the left, the one on the right was actually the heavier bird- but he had a horrible telescoping comb and I did not want to have that cropping up in the next generations. Of course the one on the left dropped dead likely from a heart attack two months later. I still feel badly about that. I'm getting 10 more day old pullets and 5 cockerels at the end of the month, hopefully I will have better luck. I still have three hens from this year, and will be hatching Buckeye/Cornish cross chicks. The eggs are going in the incubator this week. Hatchery or exhibition, doesn't matter, I think this colour is one of the most beautiful of all chicken colours.

My "Gladys" is, at my guess, about 1 week and a half, two weeks old. How long after day one is the feather sexing accurate?
The chicks pictured below are one week old. I was able to tell for at least two weeks as the new feathers grew in. The tail feathers are slower to grow as well. The one reading the comics is a male, the one eating is female. The lower pic is of the most dominant male 15 days. Comb growth pronounced.

Howdy every1. I'm back home and back to internet access. My GF's 1st incubating seems to be a success. There was 2 when we got home yesterday and 2 this morning with 3 more starting outta 36 it's a good start. Couldn't get the humidity up after day 18 so I may be helping them out later today.

I have to see which one of my 3 roo's got gotten while I was gone. I've been up for 4 hrs you'd think I'd have done it by now.lol Hopefully it was the cull.

This is Gladys this morning. I did attempt to look at her wings outstretched, though of course I didn't snap a pic. With my limited experience, I would say that the primaries are certainly longer, but I will wait it out a bit longer and see if there is any comb change.

If anyone needs a good pedigree program, here is a good one. I've used it for over 10 years with my pigeons and it can be adapted to any species of animal. I bought the original one and have upgraded it through three or four different operating systems. I needed some individual programing to be able to adapt it to pigeons and the designer made those changes to the program.

CanadianBuckeye I too prefer that colour. The greenish/purple tint is beautiful although breeders have told me for the cornish it darkens up the hens makes them melanistic imstead of yellowish lace pattern...Still I love it

It's true, my hens are all to dark- which I like, too. I guess that's one of the benefits of not breeding strictly to the SOP !
