Cornish Thread

Thought I would post a picture of my SL Cornish bantam project that I've been working on for 4 years now. This pullet is 20 weeks old, 7/8 cornish and 1/8 SL Wyandotte.I think in 3 or 4 more generations I might be there.Chicks are definitely NOT uniform yet, but I have about half a dozen pullets like this
Very nice!! What a gorgeous color on Cornish.

Just lost a lovely Dark laced Cornish Pullet to a dog attack !!!!
Never seen the dog before and after breaking a stick over its back probably never will again.

I'm wondering if it's just not meant to be with these Cornish this last year.

It was only 1 of 2 I got from my first hatch
The other is a nice Blue cockerel at about 11 weeks now.

Luckily I have a batch of chicks coming through which are doing well so finger crossed.

In Kentucky where I live, that dog could/would have been shot where he stood and his owner might still have to pay for the bird. No muss...No fuss.

Same here pal, but by the time I got my shotgun out of the safe it would have been long gone.

I grabbed a broom as I ran from the kitchen and smashed the shaft over its back and it looked slightly uncomfortable as it disappeared across the fields

Could you have a small cross-bow there? I have one that I just play around with...don't hunt anything with it but it does have lethal prospects.

I don't hunt much anymore but we used to hunt bear in West Virginia on a regular basis and would go to visit friends in Tenn. to hunt hogs with dogs. Since I have taken a non-paid sabbatical, I may have time to get back out into the woods again.

However, when I get back from my Looooong vacation, I will have my hands full with breeding some birds and even delivering some to Penn. next summer or early fall, keeping one of dad's promises to a sweet gal. There are others that I don't have the wherewithal to cover and I feel badly about that.

Heh, if you ever want to come hunt some bear in California, you should drop by my place! We get lots of problem bears around here. Big one killed a pullet in my coop just last week and broke all my darn roosts.

I appreciate the offer but California has such onerous laws and regulations, I might find it very difficult to get a hunting license, especially being out-of-state...but it is a thought. Dad sold some hounds to a couple of guys in California and they gave the obligatory invitation for any of us to come hunt with them. I have no hunting dogs so I would have to get with someone who has a pack. Thanks again...I will keep that in mind.

Turk Sounds like at QueenMisha's you won't need dogs. Just throw out some garbage and Wait. Like coons at my place. I try to swerve and get'em around the house.
