Yes my broody coop is a wire bottomed cage.
I use a dog crate with the bottom tray removed
Stack it up on a brick on each corner so it's very uncomfortable for them and the cool air gets underneath them.

After about 3 days they stop hissing at you, then I put them back in the breeding pen a few days after that.

I do the same thing, except, I made a double cage on a stand. The birds hate it and think they are going to fall to the ground when they go in. I have it sitting under a tree where the rain and snow can hit them full force. A couple days and they are done.
 
I'm curious. What would y'all think would be more beneficial to the birds.
Large open pens. Or extremely long run type pens.
My pen is round. They keep going round and round, never getting to the end. It is a Temple Grandin design. Animals tend to circle around. When they are circling, they keep on going.

The baby chick pen is off the ground so everyone can go under it with ease.
