So my first batch of Cornish Crosses are in the fridge "resting".

I'd like to know what you guys who have raised CC's weights were after culling.

Out of 19, I had 2 over 6lbs. Few in the 4 lb range, but most in the 5lb range.

Thanks!

A good respectable range. I lot of people don't want the turkey size ones.. Kudos.

Lol, no don't want turkey sized birds!

Was wondering what ranges people usually get & if I was sort of in the range, or if I was below it.

No, you are alright. A lot of people request that their birds be processed at 3-4# packaged up I think I'll do about 15-20 in the fall and aim for 6-7 weeks

Interesting post.

Red, did you weight them before processing? I am wondering about the weight lost when we process. Since people seem to process between 7 and 13 weeks, I was thinking that it was the weight of the bird that decided when we started to process them. I would like to have 5 pound chickens, so I thought that when they would weight around 6-7 pounds it would be time!

I kept track of a small batch of CX I raised the summer before last. I butchered one rooster at 7 weeks (he had leg issues and couldn't get around very well) He was 4lb, 6oz fully butchered. I processed three more roosters at 8 weeks and they were 6lb, 6 lb 13oz and 7 lbs butchered. The three pullets I processed at 9 weeks and they weighed 6lb 9oz, 6 lb and 5 lb 11 oz.

I would do another batch but I don't think they do well at our altitude of 8,000ft. I loose too many of them and have switched to Freedom Rangers instead.

You know, I really wish I had done a weight before processing. So I don't know what they weighed alive.
I've already started my 2nd batch this year so if I remember to do weights the night before process I will!
Friends of ours averaged their CX's at 5 lbs with a few above 7 dressed.

Ok, then I can update this post when I process mine in a few weeks :) Then we'll see how much weight is lost. I have 20, so it should be a good average.
