A couple of days ago I noticed our 7-10 week old cornish x chicks had black bruise like spots and knots on ther necks and chest. I went through all of my books, googled, googled, and googled some more, called some vets and find NOTHING!

They are acting fine, eating, drinking, playing, but they look terrible. I'm now seeing large areas on the shoulders (?), where wings are attached, with black scabs, as if the flesh has been eaten or rotted.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am seriously sick over this and am having some wicked nightmares!!!

Sounds like you are describing fowl pox. I'd check with firststatevetsupply.com for vaccine for the unaffected birds or get the unaffected birds processed out right away. I do not know if you can eat the birds with it. You'll have to ask your state diagnostic lab. Fowl pox if a completely different virus than the people virus. Cathryn

Thank you so much for the response. I thought it might be pox but I've looked through hundreds of pictures and nothing looks even similar to what mine have. I'm new here but I'll see what I can do to maybe post a few pics.
