A little off topic, but this year's cornish I got from Hoover's is very active. Yea, they still eat and poop alot but they actually run around. And do I say graze??? Previous broods just sat there, eating and pooping in the same spot

Before you start feeding them chick starter. Seriously, though- don't feed them regular chick starter, just go with the broiler feed.

Really? What happens if you feed them chick starter?

I guess the reason I feed them starter for a few weeks is that I only raise small numbers of Cornish with a few replacement laying hens.

Regular chick starter doesn't have the nutrients to keep up with meat birds requirements and fast growth rate. They would have higher instances of leg problems and higher early death rates. Pick up some feed with at least 20% protein, either broiler feed or gamebird feed, and you'll be much better off.

Jaku, not everyone can get a broiler type starter. We can't buy any specific broiler feed, our mill (purina food) says to feed chick starter/grower until 4 weeks, then change to a multiflock grower, then finisher.
