when do i change them over from the chick starter to the broiler rations?

I do it when I take them out of the brooder and into their pen, tractor, what ever you finish them off in.

Really? What happens if you feed them chick starter?

I guess the reason I feed them starter for a few weeks is that I only raise small numbers of Cornish with a few replacement laying hens.

Regular chick starter doesn't have the nutrients to keep up with meat birds requirements and fast growth rate. They would have higher instances of leg problems and higher early death rates. Pick up some feed with at least 20% protein, either broiler feed or gamebird feed, and you'll be much better off.

Thanks. They have been on 24% for a few weeks now. They were only one the chick starter till they feathered out (if you call those feathers

Jaku, not everyone can get a broiler type starter. We can't buy any specific broiler feed, our mill (purina food) says to feed chick starter/grower until 4 weeks, then change to a multiflock grower, then finisher.
